Have you read the Game of Thrones series of books by George R.R. Martin? It’s a rather vicious and realistic tale of kings and queens, knights and peasants in another world. Greg and I are big fans and are eagerly awaiting an HBO version of the series coming out in April.
Since I needed to make a dessert for a party for our re-enactment group last night, I decided to use my castle cake pan. One thing led to another and we soon had a replica of Winterfell, one of the castles in the Game of Thrones book.
I used powder sugar for snow on top of the castle, then added whipped egg white frosting for snow around the castle. Of course, it wasn’t complete without armed men around the castle.
Good thing we have alot of Lego’s laying around. I also added the wolf on the door and used icing to glue shields to the walls.
The cake was a big hit at our party. I also had a chance to show off a new dress, and Greg and I both came home with fun gifts. Here’s Greg with his new puzzle:
And me with a bottle of award winning Cranberry Mead made by our friend Thomas.
Greg had so much fun finding the Lego guys for the cake that we’re planning a Lego party for his birthday in March, complete with a Lego cake!
I used a store bought cake mix. The trick is to oil the pan well (I used Pan spray) and then dust with dry cake mix. It will fall right out. And of course you can cover up any bad parts with frosting "snow".

Hi there, could you please provide the recipe for the cake that you made? I have the same castle mould (also going to a GoT party) and i need a recipe for a cake that will come out of the mould completely intact, and not crumbling apart.
